Other works have them act as caretakers of the forests and other elements of the world. They tend to have a certain level of Grace about them. Their movements are fluid and sure. While their ability to fly or not is kind of up for debate.
In my writing, I stick to the idea of Nymphs being all female, as well as caretakers. They are mostly seen in Worlds of the Fey and help the gods/goddesses by keeping the worlds clean in their respective element.
Most common of all the Nymphs in historical Mythology. Wood Nymphs tend to the forests, meadows and the like. Some would use them for everything inside of the forest, such as water, animals and the like.
In my work, Wood Nymphs only tend to plants and forests by in large.
They normally have a green hue skin, though their hair and clothing is different depending on the Nymph's personality.
Another pretty common Nymph Version. Water Nymphs, like Wood Nymphs, help keep water clean and free of pollution.
In my work, Water and wood nymphs work along side each other in forests, where the Water Nymphs tend to rivers. This is not their only job though, as they tend to all water sources, big or small. They also help with rain water

They normally have a blue hue skin and a more flowy attire, their demeanor is normally more calm and relaxed than that of the Wood Nymphs.
I don't think this version of Nymph is common, as they tend to be more of a spirit.
However, I use Fire Nymphs to tend to... well hot things, such as lava, or fires, mainly in Seristos (on of the Three worlds in WotF). Fire Nymphs, like both water and wood Nymphs, have a stander hue, which is red, they also have a bit of a shorter temper

They are not beyond messing with Mortals, especially if you tick one off.
I highly doubt these exist in Mythology, and I don't know much in the way of them being used. But I could be wrong.
Wind Nymphs tend to help air get to where it needs to go, and into places that air has a hard time getting to, or is impossible to get to.

Wind Nymphs are the only Nymph that will get paid to bring air to places that doesn't get fresh air. Dwarves tend to love Wind Nymphs for this fact.
While their skin hue is green, it is more on the blue side or blueish green... something along those lines. They do not have wings, but they can still fly. These are the only nymphs that can fly.
"Ever feel a much needed breeze on your back on a hot summer's day? That would be the Wind Nymphs." - Someone I'm sure.
